Installation in Highway Construction
01 Asphalt Mixing Plants in Highway Construction
With economic prosperity, highway construction in my country has made significant progress. Quality requirements for highway construction are becoming increasingly stringent, and mechanized construction has become an industry trend. This not only reduces labor intensity but also significantly shortens the construction cycle, thus showcasing the modernization of highway construction. In the construction of highway pavements, mixing, paving, and compaction are the three core stages, with the mixing stage being crucial for ensuring construction quality. Asphalt concrete mixing equipment, as a key factor in this stage, has a decisive impact on the progress and quality of the project. This equipment integrates mechanical, electrical, and automation technologies and is an indispensable and important link in highway construction.
02 Site Selection and Layout Before Installation
In the highway construction process, the installation of the asphalt plant is a crucial step. It involves not only the selection of the equipment site but also a reasonable layout plan. Correct installation location and layout can ensure the production efficiency and quality of asphalt concrete, thereby affecting the progress and quality of the entire highway project. Therefore, the installation of the asphalt plant must be carefully considered and planned before construction.
▲ 1. Site Selection
(1) Given the heavy workload of large asphalt mixing plants, their site area requirements are correspondingly large. During site selection, the type of construction equipment and the capacity for aggregate storage must be comprehensively considered. Generally, selecting a location near the middle section of the construction road is ideal, while ensuring a stable supply of water and electricity, as well as smooth transportation of raw materials and finished products.
(2) The natural environment of the site is also crucial. A dry area with slightly elevated terrain should be selected, and the groundwater level should not be too high. During the site selection phase, a thorough investigation of the site's geological conditions should be conducted to avoid equipment deformation due to gravity caused by geological issues.
(3) In situations where multiple highways are under construction simultaneously, site selection becomes more complex. In this case, the optimal location can be determined by calculating various costs and combining them with the average transport distance.
▲ 2. Site Layout
After site selection, careful layout of the entire construction site is required. Large asphalt mixing plants involve numerous types of equipment, including mixing hosts, asphalt storage facilities, and finished product warehouses. In addition, the layout of infrastructure such as thermal oil heaters, drum unloading machines, and power distribution rooms must be considered, as well as the arrangement of cable trenches and double-layer asphalt pipelines. Meanwhile, areas such as vehicle scales, construction vehicle parking areas, equipment maintenance workshops, laboratories, and stone mixing yards also need to be rationally planned. During construction, a large amount of raw materials and finished materials will enter and leave the mixing plant; therefore, a reasonable site layout is crucial for maintaining construction order.
03 Equipment Installation and Safety Measures
After the site layout is properly arranged, the next step is equipment installation. This involves positioning and fixing various equipment such as the mixing host, asphalt storage facilities, and finished material warehouse according to the pre-designed plan. At the same time, it is necessary to ensure that all cables, pipes, and other connecting components are installed correctly and securely to guarantee safety and smooth operation during construction. Furthermore, the installation quality of some key equipment, such as thermal oil heaters and drum unloading machines, will directly affect the production efficiency and product quality of the entire mixing plant, and therefore requires special care.
▲ 1. Careful Preparation Before Installation
Before the complete set of mixing plant equipment and auxiliary equipment arrives at the construction site, we must prepare a comprehensive location map in advance and ensure that the equipment can be successfully lifted in one go during installation. This is because avoiding secondary lifting is crucial for saving overall costs. At the same time, the installation site must meet the basic requirements of "three connections and one leveling" to ensure the smooth progress of the installation work. Furthermore, assembling an experienced installation team is essential; they can properly handle various problems that may be encountered during installation.
▲ 2. Essential Installation Equipment and Tools
To ensure the smooth progress of the installation work, we need to equip ourselves with the following equipment and tools: a small vehicle for purchasing and daily office work, two cranes weighing 35 tons and 50 tons respectively, a 30-meter long rope, a 10-meter extendable ladder, and commonly used crowbars, sledgehammers, hand saws, electric drills, grinders, wire cutters, various wrenches, safety belts, and spirit levels. In addition, a ZL50 loader is needed to assist in the installation work.
▲ 3. Installation Process
During the installation process, we follow a certain sequence to ensure the orderly progress of the work. First, we will install asphalt auxiliary facilities, such as boilers, followed by the construction of the mixing plant. Then, we will install the dryer, powder mill, aggregate elevator, and its baghouse dust collector in sequence. After that, we will install the cold-lifting unit, main distribution unit, and finished product silo. Finally, we will proceed to the central control room and begin wiring.
▲ 4. Safety Measures During road construction in summer, to ensure the safe use of electronic equipment, we should install lightning rods and surge protectors to prevent damage from lightning strikes.
