III. Performance Differences
The performance of asphalt mixtures is crucial to their application effectiveness, and hot and cold asphalt mixtures also exhibit slight differences in performance. Hot asphalt mixes have better setting properties, resulting in less displacement after mixing and stronger wear resistance, durability, and aging resistance in the pavement. Cold asphalt mixes, on the other hand, have poorer setting properties, are prone to instability or collapse, and have weaker load-bearing capacity and durability.

Hot asphalt mixes are mostly used in the construction of high-grade pavements such as large highways and bridges. While their construction is more difficult and costly, they meet high standards of durability and aging resistance. Cold asphalt mixes are mostly used in the construction of general pavements such as urban roads and parking lots. Their construction is simpler and less expensive, making them suitable for medium to low standard pavement requirements.
