The operating speed of emulsified asphalt sprayers is typically 3–8 km/h, depending on the spray volume, spray width, and equipment type. A uniform speed must be maintained to ensure even spraying.
Speed Requirements for Emulsified Asphalt Sprayer Operation
For conventional construction (such as tack coat and prime coat): a speed of 5–8 km/h is recommended, corresponding to a spray volume of 0.3–0.6 kg/m².
For high spray volumes or modified emulsified asphalt (e.g., 0.8–1.5 kg/m²): a speed of 3–5 km/h is recommended to avoid poor atomization or missed areas.
Intelligent sprayers (pump speed and vehicle speed linked): These can automatically match the vehicle speed after setting the target spray volume, but manual monitoring is still required, and the speed should not exceed 8 km/h.
Hand-push or small equipment: speeds are usually below 10 m/min (≈0.6 km/h), and are only used for localized repairs or narrow road operations. Avoid sudden acceleration/braking during application. Construction is prohibited when the air temperature is below 10℃ or the road surface is wet. The actual application speed needs to be determined on-site based on the designed application rate, nozzle width, and equipment calibration parameters.
