Technical Specifications for Micro-surfacing Construction of Emulsified Asphalt
I. Material Requirements
Modified Emulsified Asphalt
Cationic polymer-modified emulsified asphalt must be used, with a modifier dosage (effective component as a percentage of pure asphalt mass) ≥3%.
Evaporation residue content ≥60%, softening point ≥57℃, meeting the requirements of the "Technical Specifications for Construction of Highway Asphalt Pavement" (JTG F40).
Aggregates
Hard, wear-resistant, and clean coarse and fine aggregates should be selected, with a synthetic mineral sand equivalent passing through a 4.75mm sieve ≥65%.
Fine aggregates should preferably be manufactured sand or clean stone chips produced from alkaline aggregates. Coarse aggregates must meet indicators such as crushing value and polishing value.
Fillers
Commonly used are cement, mineral powder, etc., which should be dry, loose, and free of lumps, with fineness and moisture content meeting the specifications.
Water
Potible water should be used, with a pH value of 6-8, and free of harmful soluble salts.
II. Mix Design
Aggregate Grading: Select gradation according to MS-2, MS-3, etc. The percentage of aggregates passing through sieves (e.g., 9.5mm, 4.75mm, etc.) must meet the specified range.
Asphalt-Aggregate Ratio: Determined using the Marshall method or Vim method to ensure the mixture performance meets design requirements.
Additives: Inorganic salts or organic additives can be added to adjust workability such as mixing time and demulsification rate.

III. Construction Process
Construction Preparation: Clean the existing road surface, repair cracks, potholes, and other defects, ensuring the road surface is smooth and dry.
Inspect the paver, mixing equipment, roller, and other construction machinery to ensure normal operation.
Mixture Mixing: Add aggregates, fillers, water, modified emulsified asphalt, etc., to the mixing equipment according to the mix proportion. Mix for 30-60 seconds to ensure uniformity.
Paving: Use a micro-surfacing paver. The paving thickness is determined according to the design (generally 5-10mm). Paving speed: 1.5-3.0 km/h, maintain a uniform speed to ensure uniform seal coat thickness and a smooth surface.
Compaction: Use a rubber-tired roller for 1-2 passes to eliminate wheel tracks and improve density.
Compaction temperature: Control temperature between 15-37℃, avoiding low or high temperature construction.
Joint Treatment: Use flat joints for transverse joints and 50-70mm overlap for longitudinal joints, ensuring smooth joints without vehicle bounce.
IV. Quality Control
Material Testing: Strictly test modified emulsified asphalt, aggregates, and fillers to ensure quality meets design requirements.
Construction Process Control: Strictly control parameters such as material proportions, paving thickness, and compaction speed.
Monitor mixing quality and paving uniformity in real time to ensure construction quality.
Finished Product Inspection: Inspect seal coat thickness, smoothness, and density to ensure compliance with design requirements.
Conduct road performance tests such as skid resistance and waterproofing.
V. Construction Precautions
Construction Environment
Avoid construction when the temperature is below 10℃ or above 37℃.
Construction is prohibited in rainy or windy weather to prevent erosion by rainwater and the effects of wind.
Construction Coordination
Coordinate with other construction processes to ensure construction progress and quality.
Strictly adhere to safety operating procedures during construction, and set up warning signs and protective measures.
Curement
Properly cure after construction to avoid vehicle traffic and rainwater soaking.
Keep the road surface moist during curing to ensure the modified emulsified asphalt fully cures.
VI. Acceptance Standards
Appearance Quality
The road surface is smooth, dense, and free from defects such as loose material, peeling, and cracks.
The color is uniform with no obvious color difference.
Performance Indicators
Anti-skid performance (e.g., BPN) ≥ 45, permeability coefficient ≤ 50 ml/min.
The seal coat thickness is uniform and meets design requirements.
