Ultra-thin micro-seal: an efficient solution for the renovation of early-stage diseases of asphalt pavement
Asphalt pavement is prone to early-stage diseases such as whitening, lack of oil, and fine cracks during long-term service due to the coupling of traffic loads and environmental factors. These problems may seem minor, but they may accelerate the aging of pavement structure - whitening is caused by asphalt oxidation and oil loss, lack of oil leads to decreased aggregate adhesion, and fine cracks become channels for water penetration. If not handled in time, it is very easy to develop into serious diseases such as potholes and cracks. Ultra-thin micro-seal technology provides targeted renovation solutions for such early diseases with its unique material properties and construction advantages.

For the problems of whitening and lack of oil, the core advantage of ultra-thin micro-seal lies in active regeneration and precise oil replenishment. The highly active regenerator in its formula can penetrate 2-3mm deep into the road surface, react with the aged asphalt to cross-link, replenish the lost light components, and restore the viscoelastic properties of the asphalt; at the same time, the specially graded modified asphalt emulsion can evenly fill the gaps between aggregates, solve the loose structure caused by lack of oil on the surface, fundamentally reverse the whitening phenomenon, and restore the uniform color and integrity of the road surface.
For the treatment of fine cracks, the ultra-thin micro-seal layer exhibits the dual effects of penetration sealing and elastic repair. During the construction process, the material can penetrate into fine cracks of 0.2-0.5mm width through pressure spraying, and after curing, it forms a sealing layer with both elasticity and strength, which not only prevents water from infiltrating, but also produces micro-deformation with the change of road surface temperature, reducing the risk of secondary crack expansion. Compared with the limitation that the traditional fog seal layer can only cover the surface of the crack, this deep sealing can extend the service life of the road surface.
At the construction level, the rapid renovation characteristics of the ultra-thin micro-seal layer significantly improve the maintenance efficiency. Using special equipment for integrated spraying and paving, the material can be cured within 4-8 hours, greatly shortening the traffic closure time; its ultra-thin structure of 1-3mm will not change the elevation of the road surface, avoiding the elevation trouble of subsequent bridge deck paving or intersection connection. At the same time, the rough surface formed by the specially graded quartz sand aggregate can simultaneously improve the anti-skid performance of the road surface, taking into account safety and durability.
Practice has shown that the early diseased road surface treated with ultra-thin micro-seal can not only restore the appearance and function in a short period of time, but also extend the service life of the road surface by 3-5 years by strengthening the adhesion of asphalt and blocking the development path of the disease. This technical feature of "treating early and small, treating both the symptoms and the root causes" makes it the preferred solution for the renovation of early diseases of asphalt pavements, and it shows significant technical and economic value in scenes such as municipal roads and highway ramps.
