On May 21, Zambian President Hichilema attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Lusaka-Ndola two-way four-lane highway upgrade project held in Kapirimposhi, Central Province. Minister Counselor Wang Sheng attended and delivered a speech on behalf of Ambassador Du Xiaohui. Zambian Minister of Science and Technology Mutati, Minister of Green Economy and Environment Nzovu, and Minister of Transport and Logistics Tayali attended the branch ceremony in Lusaka, Chibombu and Luanshya respectively.
President Hichilema said that the upgrade of the Lusaka-Ndola road has promoted youth employment and saved people’s lives. The upgraded Loon Highway will not only benefit all Zambians, but also the entire Southern African Community. Thanks to China for supporting and helping Zambia's infrastructure construction and development. The future highway will work with the revitalized Tanzania-Zambia Railway to provide a solid guarantee for Zambia's sustainable development. We look forward to the timely completion of the project.

Minister Counselor Wang said that the Lusaka-Ndola road upgrading and reconstruction project is another important project for China-Zambia cooperation following the China-Zambia Cooperation High-Quality Development Forum on May 15. He thanked the Zambian government for creating a good environment for government and social capital cooperation. . China will, as always, work with Zambia to promote modernization and looks forward to the upgraded Loon Highway becoming an integral part of the future Tanzania-Zambia Railway Economic Corridor.
The two-way four-lane highway upgrade project from Lusaka to Ndola was built by a consortium formed by AVIC International, Henan Overseas and other companies under a government-social capital cooperation model. It has a total length of 327 kilometers and upgrades the two-way two-lane to four-lane, connecting the capital. The three central cities of Lusaka, Kabwe, the capital of Central Province, and Ndola, the capital of Copperbelt Province, and Kapiri Mposhi, the end point of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway in Zambia, are the north-south economic arteries of Zambia and even southern Africa.
